Our Family Legacy in Clockmaking

The Verdin family’s clockmaking story begins all the way back in 1842, when my great-great-great-grandfather and his brother built and installed their very first clock for Old St. Mary’s Church in Cincinnati — a clock that still keeps time today.

From that humble beginning, each generation carried on the craft. Alois Nicolas Verdin, the second generation, expanded the family’s work and continued to innovate in clock design and installation. He was followed by Innes Theopholis (I.T.) Verdin, the third generation, who passed his knowledge and passion to my grandfather, Forrest Verdin, and his brothers.

The fifth generation of Verdin clockmakers included my father, David Verdin, who continued the family’s proud tradition. Now, more than 180 years later, I’m proud to carry that same legacy forward — and even more proud to be teaching my own sons how to work on clocks, ensuring the Verdin name continues to ring through time.
